Venus Consoling Love by Francois Boucher - Hand Painted Oil Painting Reproduction in the Rococo Style 9" x 11-1/4"

A hand painted reproduction in oil of Francois Boucher's "Venus Consoling Love". The original was painted in 1751 and is in the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C.

It is painted with high quality artist oil paints on a 9" x 11-1/4" hardboard panel and has a protective varnish. It is listed as unframed but I do have a frame that fits which needs to be refinished and re-gilded so if you would like it framed, it can be arranged.

The technique used in this painting is an indirect method, which involves applying several (often many) layers of thin paint, letting each layer dry before applying the next. It can be a very time-consuming and labor intensive technique which results in a luminous, virtually brushstroke-free surface. I enjoy working in both indirect and alla prima (direct wet-in-wet) methods.

Master copies are often painted by students of classical oil painting and this piece was begun as an assignment for my oil painting class in art school. Some years later I decided I could do a lot better and began working it up to a much finer finish, learning so much more in the process.

The copyright watermark shown on the photo will not be included on the actual piece; signature is included in oil paint.
